🦥12.1. Regional Leagues: Gateway to the Elite

Key Features & Unique Structure
Regional Leagues are the beating heart of Lazy Football.
Here, we use an innovative, accessible system: 32 parallel Division 1 (D1) leagues at the top of the pyramid, with additional Division 2 (D2) and Division 3 (D3) tiers introduced starting from Season 8.
Each D1 league is a true analogue of a national championship, ensuring that every region has its own top division — while D2 and D3 provide a clear and competitive path of promotion and relegation. Any ambitious club can climb the ladder and pursue top honors from the very beginning.

What makes this special?
Thanks to this pyramid structure, the journey from the Amateur Conference to the Champions League can take just a few seasons. Every campaign presents a real opportunity for both new and established clubs to rise through the ranks and compete at the highest level — keeping the ecosystem exciting, dynamic, and open to fresh talent.
Season Flow & Promotion
Season 7 → 8 Transition
Season 8 marked the introduction of D2 and D3 divisions. The transition between Season 7 and Season 8 followed these special one-time rules:
15–16th teams from each D1 were relegated directly to D2.
1–64th teams from the Amateur Conference were promoted directly to D1.
11–14th teams from D1 played play-offs against 65–192th teams from the Amateur Conference. Winners advanced to D1, losers started in D2.
193–1024th teams from the Amateur Conference went directly to D2.
This setup filled both D1 and D2 tiers and laid the foundation for further expansion of the Regional system.
Season 8 → 9 Transition
The next rotation between Season 8 and Season 9 will proceed as follows:
15–16th teams from each D1 → direct relegation to D2.
1st teams from each D2 → direct promotion to D1.
11–14th D1 teams play play-offs vs 2–3rd D2 teams. Winners → D1, losers → D2.
15–16th D2 teams → direct relegation to D3.
1–128th teams from the Amateur Conference → direct promotion to D2.
11–14th D2 teams play play-offs vs 129–384th Amateur teams. Winners → D2, losers → D3.
385–2048th Amateur teams → direct assignment to D3.
Standard Rotation Rules (From Season 9 onward)
Starting with Season 9, the Regional Leagues operate under a stable, recurring rotation system:
Between D1 and D2
15–16th D1 teams → relegated to D2.
1st D2 teams → promoted to D1.
11–14th D1 teams play play-offs vs 2–3rd D2 teams. Winners → D1, losers → D2.
Between D2 and D3
15–16th D2 teams → relegated to D3.
1st D3 teams → promoted to D2.
11–14th D2 teams play play-offs vs 2–3rd D3 teams. Winners → D2, losers → D3.
Between D3 and the Amateur Conference
15–16th D3 teams → relegated to the Amateur Conference.
1–256th Amateur teams → promoted to D3.
11–14th D3 teams play play-offs vs 257–768th Amateur teams. Winners → D3, losers → remain Amateur.
This ongoing rotation ensures constant movement, competitive balance, and a genuine chance for every club to rise through the ranks.
Vertical & Horizontal Rotation
After each season, teams are reshuffled to keep the competition fresh:
Vertical rotation determines which teams move up or down the league pyramid (promotion and relegation based on results).
Horizontal rotation means that teams promoted or relegated can be assigned to any suitable regional league in their new division, not just the one closest to their previous opponents. This ensures new rivalries and diverse competition every year.
Qualification for Champions League & Contenders League
Success in Regional Leagues is your gateway to the biggest competitions:
The top 2 teams in each D1 league qualify for the next season’s Champions League — the most prestigious tournament with the largest rewards.
The 3rd and 4th placed teams qualify for the Contenders League, which also offers significant prizes and elite competition.
Every season, all clubs have a real chance to climb the ladder and earn their place among the game’s best — no matter where they started!
Tie-breakers
If two or more teams finish the season with the same number of points, final league positions are determined by the following criteria, in order:
